The quote by Kurt Vonnegut is taken from his novel "Slaughterhouse-Five", the story of Billy Pilgrim who became unstuck in time after being abducted by Tralfamadore aliens. The aliens are so disgusted with Billy's descriptions of the bombing of Dresden that they have him sent back through time, to the moment he received the news, on the day before it happened. Billy is then allowed to return to Dresden, where he can see the truth about what happened for himself. The quote is another famous one by Vonnegut, both of them express what it means to be stuck in a cycle of traumatic events (war, injury), but also to continue blazing forward into something different and better (love, art).
